my 5 year old iBook is dying, i think. likes to freeze up at random times, the hard drive goes click click click over and over like its stuck, and today it was making sounds like tearing a piece of paper up.

i completely erased the HD over thanksgiving and did a fresh install but its still doing this. any ideas? replace just the HD or the whole thing?

thanks, looks like i can get a new one for about $100 and have my dad put it in. its funny, it still reboots after it freezes with no problems and i havent lost any data yet

also check the coolers. could be a problem with the temperature

Definitely sounds like a dying hard drive. I had an IBM Deskstar (AKA Deathstar) that did the same things right before it died. With all my data on it. :what
