Re: Wii

Getting one for sure with TP before Xmas. After reading the following previews and how effortless it is to control, it makes me want it even more now. http://wii.ign.com/articles/744/744044p1.html http://blog.wired.com/games/2006/11/zelda_the_reaso.html#more

Corven: I think you'll have a long wait for the PS3 price drop. I can't see Sony dropping the price until about late 2008 or so, unless it doesn't sell well, which I'm sure it will. I can't wait to see how much someone is willing to spend to get one (on eBay).

Re: Wii

ps3 is way too over priced... xbox360 is reasonable for high def gaming... ps3 and 360 both only output 1080i right? (not 1080p). 360 is also coming out with a HD-DVD addons (only for movies) which is kind of good since there are way more HD-DVD movies than Blu-ray. However, the ps3 will be killer graphics 2nd to none. But the price tag is ridiculous. Want to play "flOw" to test out the new motion sensing controller... it's meant to showcase its capabilities really well. Some other games not so good.

But I really think I wanna get a Wii... Wii sports is a bundled game you get with it, and the tennis game with it is supposed to be really good, infact could be a standalone game. Holding that "nunchuck" and swinging like a crazy man... love it :)

Re: Wii

the only positive for the PS3 (vs. xbox) right now is the graphics and I say "ONLY" because you need a Hi-Def compliant TV. You'll need it for the xbox too but it's $200 cheaper and so a more logical alternative.

You could end up buying both, a Wii and the base 360 and still come out cheaper than the PS3.

But the only thing that the Wii can do (and apparently does really well) is play games. no dvd player, media player, nothing.

well ... i buy a game console to play game and nothing else ... if i really need the other functions i would get some other gadgets that does those functions ;)

on a side note its nice that the ps3 comes with a blu-ray drive for movies since its games come in blu-ray discs .. but i dont need it for movies i just want them games

Re: Wii

I'm torn, definately between P3 and the Wii. A little discouraged with my Game Cube. The lack of new games in the past 2 years was lame. Don't want to get stuck in that boat again. I think the same thing might happen with the Wii. Nintendo spends less money on games, to help them make more. So they never have a wide selection like Sony or Microsoft.

If you're torn between the PS3 and Wii, I take it price is not as issue for you but there are several ways you can look at that. I'll go with the premium PS3 since there's more value added to it over the core version. PS3=$600 (no game) Wii=$250 inc. Wii Sport or (Wii + 7 Games = $600)

It also depends on what you're looking for. Gameplay (wii) or graphics (ps3)? A completely new way in playing games (wiimote) or the same old way with a slight twist (SIXAXIS)? It also depends on what sort of games you like playing. Since you own a Gamecube I'm sure you've played Zelda, Mario, Metroid etc... (All those will be exclusive to Wii) As for PS3, you'll have you Metal Gear, GTA, KillZone etc...(Some of those may be coming to 360 also)

The one critical thing that Wii have that Gamecube didn't is 3rd party support. Right now there are several Exclusive 3rd party launch titles for Wii, including Red Steel, Rayman: Raving Rabbids, Sonic: Secret Rings, Elebits plus a few others. All these were designed for the ground up, specifically for the Wii (and the wiimote) so you won't be seeing them on the PS3 or 360. There are lots more too coming before the end of the year and next year.

Just to show you show you a sample of how much 3rd party support Wii is, Ubisoft alone has 14 Wii games in development (mind you some of these will be port but with control specifically for the wiimote). All of these will be released from Wii launch through to March of next year. I doubt if Ubisoft released 14 games for the entire Gamecube lifecycle. That's just one company.

I'm not sure exactly what you meant by this
Nintendo spends less money on games, to help them make more.
I'm guessing from a game development standpoint. True, the PS2 has a LOT of games but the Gamecube has a lot more Quality games. That's something Nintendo has always preached, quality over quantity. Also, Zelda: Twilight Princess has been in development for quite a few years now and with the recent playtest, and a quote from a Nintendo rep stating 70+ hours actual gameplay, not including all the sidequests etc. This is one game where you can say it's worth every penny of your $50.

In the end, it'll come down to the games, what games you enjoy playing. That reminds me, I forgot to mention Virtual Console for the Wii. Almost all NES, SNES, N64, TurboGraphic, Sega classic games, you'll be able to download and play on the Wii (you have to buy them of course ($5-$10). That should add a little nostalgic factor to the mix).

One thing I think you should try not to do is compare the current systems with their predecessors. Everyone has a clean slate with launch of a new system so you never know what will happen.

Anyway, the decision is up to you, it's your money, don't let anyone make the decision for you, make it for yourself. :)

I think I went a little overboard here.

Erm.. huh? I'm pretty sure the whole reason the PS3 has a Blu-Ray drive is because they want to get their HD movie format into the home and PS3 is the best way to do this. If they didn't then I reckon they could have easily gone with a DVD drive for PS3. A dual-sided, dual-layered DVD holds 17GB. Which I'm pretty sure is plenty.

nintendo wii

umm....

buy it ASAP. really really fun. not a hardcore gamer thing, the graphics arent near the other two, but games and gameplay/interaction... wow. really new, unique and fun. put off the big 2 until later IMHO.

thats all i can say.
