I have just gotten around to installing windows vista, connecting my PC to my TV and fooling with Media Center. While I dont have a TV Tuner card yet to play with and record TV and I'm still missing a remote control. I have to admit that the interface is so bloody good, I'm pretty hesitant to try the Linux Variant at the moment.

I was able to setup all my sets from MS+, load all the photos we have clicked so far and everything just loaded so well and effortlessly, I was very pleased with it.

Will be fooling with it some more today to see how movies look when viewed from the DVD player on the PC 8)

Re: Vista Media Center

do not buy a tv tuner card if you don't need one go for a video card with VIVO (or AVIVO for ATI) is all i need to make satellite work on my pc :)

Re: Vista Media Center

its the RC release, its free. You can download it from Microsoft's website and so far I LOVE it. Seems to run a lot more stable (yet consiming more CPU power at all times) but that could also be since its RC stage

Re: Vista Media Center

and hows the security issue like??

a) with the DMCA/DRM stuff?? i.e. your average video/mp3 download still work fine or do they lock up if not copyrighted?

b) 3rd party anti-virus software still works?

Re: Vista Media Center

I'm still messing with it and mainly listening to my old sets and mixes from MercurySessions so I haven't really had any DRM issues.

It's been 5+ years since I last used any Anti-Virus software at home so I wouldn't even know of any issues with XP

Though I will say that Norton has to be the WORST AV software ever. The amount of problems we have at work and that people I know face with their computers only because of Norton is a miracle they get anything done. Its like you buy a computer with norton as a show piece and only to support the software and hardware manufacturer.

Re: Vista Media Center

Norton actually used to be good in its earlier/earliest stages...then alas like most stuff it got way too bloated and big for its own good...:( And man can it screw up your system...I have a nice couple of stories on that one.

Def. looking forward to the pics...

Re: Vista Media Center

i had it installed for almost a month, everything was cool, but when i instaled few games and apps up, everything went dark...

nothing worked as it shloud, everything was slow, and imagine the reaction when i saw that the bloody svchost took over 80MB of ram, my tiger woods 2007 doesnt work, or has heavy glitches...

yeah, it really looked great, especially that aero thingy, and 3D advanced options...

huh, totally missed the topic, but whatsoever, i formated the hard drive... hehehe

Re: Vista Media Center

^ so the bottom line? vista is great with nothing installed??

Re: Vista Media Center

well yea its not meant to work top notch at least when its in RC stage. This is mainly so that developers can download a working OS to test and release their own apps. I'm sure everything will be fixed when the actual OS is released.
