you could always use windows sound recorder to record 30 seconds as a wav, then convert to mp3 with some mp3 software

Freely available... dunno. I'd gor for SoundForge XP (which is not free outside your regular P2P leeching clients)

Hmmm-so far I"ve been playing the audio off of the computer into the mic or line in or my iriver-it's a legit spot to find samples etc but they're a bitch to get out in good enough quailty to use

only because these are compressed videos and audio to begin with, so it's going to sound pretty crappy unless you find a higher-quality video.

No doubt they're compressed and will sound crappy-it's just that they sound even crappier when not recorded through some internal software rather than the out put of a cpu through an earbud into the mic hole on an mp3 recorder-lol

I'm gonna have a go at google and search that audiohijack shiz

totalrecorder used to be the best because it lets you record sound directly from the sound card. dunno if its free though

Totalrecorder is great, but it ain't free.
