...got delivered today, and I had it custom built. No watercooling shiz and such, i'm not that hightech a guy, but still this one is sooooooo much better than what I had!

ThermalTake Soprano Coolermaster Extreme power (430) socket AM2 Asus M2N-E nForce570U AMD Athlon X2 4200+ (2,2 per core) 2 Gig DDR-2 in dual channel (667 mHz) 2x 160 Gig HDD in SATA XFX Graphics card, 512 Mb, Nvidia Geforce 7300 Asus DVD-RAM player Terratec Producer Phase 22 soundcard Trust drawing tablet (nuttin pro, but good to start) Logitech wireless mouse, logitech ultra flat keyboard (i will accept no other keyboards anymore)

Got another LG dvd-ram player around which i intend to install....but this thing is fast as fuck man, and I intend to use it for better graphics :D. Oh, and it's pretty damn silent with those 2x 120mm case fans! Massive upgrade from my old socket 754 AMD Sempron 2600+....that things just pissed me off incessantly by being so obnoxiously slow and never responding. Fuck 128kb L2 cache!!

Pics to follow...

Re: just got my new toy

Are you going to use it as a general purpose PC or e.g. as a dedicated producing PC?

Re: just got my new toy

General purpose, but mainly graphics. Although with that soundcard its both music and graphics orientated guess...

Re: just got my new toy

So far it works extremely fast, only hiccups when i try to fire up illustrator and photoshop and something else at the same time :D. Only problem i had is that my old font management tool made PS crash...that sux since i need to find a (probably paid) solution now. Other than that it is amazing!

I need to open the box and take pics of the inside this week to show it to you, maybe for the geeks there is something interesting to see ;). The mobo has a damn heatpipe on it...but it needs it i guess. Haven't run any diagnostis yet for temperature, so for it seems it keeps in in the green without trouble. This does confirm for me though that I'll take AMD over Intel any day without even thinking twice. The only worthwhile Intels are those Dual Xeons, but they're way too expensive. Below that, AMD is more bang for the buck.

Re: just got my new toy

Sounds good my man...yea thats the only thing that sucks with PC's. Getting more then 2 gigs of RAM is a real problem for most average people. Using all that software you mentioned at the same time sure sucks everything it can get from the systems memory I'm sure.

From what I've been reading last months, Intel Core 2 duo seems to be more bang for the buck ... all performance graphs indicate a huge performance for Intel Core 2 duo.

Re: just got my new toy

yea for now...until AMD counters eventually with its quad-core setup.

#713941Post 11 of 16

Re: just got my new toy

I've had the pleasure of using both, and from my experience, the AMD's are just a tad faster - somehow that FSB speed does a lot, as well as the new AM2 motherboards. Intel just seems stuck to that one socket 755 thing....AM2 ddr-2 mem goes from 533 mHz. I got 667, and it's lightningfast.

Re: just got my new toy

wow, we got very similar machines. i went with a dell, but thats cause i get a rediculous discount via my company.

Intel Dual (R) Premium (R) D CPU 2.80ghz, 2.80ghz 2 gigs ddr2 ram 320 gig SATA hard drive (have an external backup maxtor one-touch) Creative SB X-Fi <----a SICK soundcard nVidia GeoForce 7300 LE dvd & dvdr drives 20 inch monitor

i wasnt the biggest dell fan, but for the amount i paid for this, its unbelievable. i couldnt have got near the machine i did for the amount i paid with any other company.

can't wait to record a few sets using this new soundcard. music comes alive with this thing like i never thought possible, mostly cause my old soundcard was a flamming piece of shit.

Re: just got my new toy

Hahaaha, yeah that soundcard is qualitywise in the same range as mine as far as I can tell. It's even possible that since my father wants one with a midi out, he'll buy me the one you have and he'll get mine ;)

Nice rig btw...you'll have a lot of fun wit it. I'm in love with dual core....

Re: just got my new toy

If you don't mind me asking what was the price tag? If not thats cool but I have been looking for a new computer for a while mainly to focus on gaming, but one that also has a good price tag.
