SLI memory...worth it??

Ok, so time is ticking down for me to make the last order for my new rig....all I need is motherboard and CPU. More than likely I'm getting an AMD, which means nForce 590, which means EPP memory support. Well, like an idiot I already bought 2 gigs of OCZ Platinum DDR2-800 about a month ago...which does not support EPP. It was on sale, so I jumped on it.

Now I'm wondering if it will be worth the trouble to get the new OCZ Platinum EPP Edition (4-4-3-15 timings) and sell what I already have. Here is review of the EPP versions at Virtual Hideout. What I noticed is that in order to get the best overclock out of the memory the reviewer had to disable the EPP and manually jack the clock speed up. EPP really only seems to take away the hassle of overclocking...not necessarily give you the flat-out best results. Is it worth it for the ease of use and better timings??

Also, the first set of memory I bought has now been replaced with a Revision 2 with better timings...4-4-4-15 instead of 4-5-4-15. Is that slight change in the TRCD going to make that much of a difference?? Aren't I going to have to loosen the timings anyway as the speed increases??

This is going to be my first overclocking project and just want make sure I'm setting myself up for success.

Thoughts??

Re: SLI memory...worth it??

Thought about it, but I'm not going to spend as much on memory as my CPU and motherboard combined.

I honestly don't know what to tell ya. Mostly, because I'm fookin' lazy right now. I know what it's like to buy something in advance or in overabundance. I couldn't pass up deals on hard drives many, many months ago and now I have a 2TB file server. :p

I agree, you`ll need them if you want to make that overclock worth it ;)

Re: SLI memory...worth it??

I know it would make a huge difference, but unfortunately $500 is more than I'm willing to pay for memory. I'm going for a good all-around system and dropping that much on one thng would put me out of balance.
