Re: techno geeks... slingbox
how much was it?
Re: techno geeks... slingbox
$220 at Walmart.... I've seen it cheaper online but being the geek I am I "had" to have it today.... This thing rocks.
Re: techno geeks... slingbox
That's pretty damn cool. I'm not a t.v. junkie but some friends of mine will be very interested in that.
Re: techno geeks... slingbox

Re: techno geeks... slingbox
I've been doing this with my MythTV box since before slingbox was available. I can watch live TV, watch recorded shows, schedule shows to record, the whole pause live tv thing, listen to my music library, and on and on. The watching TV thing remotely is a novelty. The guys at my work use it more than I do (for watching sports while at work). Its definately cool on the geek factor scale but in real life, overrated.
BTW I having your geek card pulled, real geeks don't buy it, they build it. ;)

Re: techno (logy) geeks... slingbox
I've been toying with the idea of picking up Sony's 250 GB DVR which records off of the Channel / Show Listings on Channel 3, this thing seems like an interesting add on for sure.... (not that there is any TV Show I'd be that desperate to want to watch from an overseas location but still interesting)

.... $220 Wal-mart, $250 Target, CompUSA etc.... I'll take the loser points and use the money I saved to drink the pain away. After having this for a day now I will say that unless you watch a fair amount of TV this probably wouldn't be worth it. One cool thing is that I can be on the road and if I forgot to set my DVR to record something I can do it online... That, and the stray hot girl at the local coffee shop thought it was the coolest thing she had ever seen.... Unfortunately my fiancee' wouldn't let me keep her....:(

Again something Mythtv has been able to do for years now (see screen shot above). In addition they just added the ability to control your netflix account/queue from your remote. I can also rip dvd's to the HD to watch later. Soon they will be adding a feature to allow you to select a movie playing at the local movie theater on your remote. The tickets get purchased and are waiting for you at the window.
