Re:: Doom 3 leaked!

I'm reading a 20+ page thread on IGN right now started by some dude who has it. Pictures look legit. Its at the lowest detail settings and still looks sick. I've got a feeling this damn thing is gonna be sold out for at least a week.

Dammit...shoulda pre-ordered. :BangHead:

Its not single player only. It has a full fledged multiplayer. It kinda builds on the mood of the single player. I'm pretty sure its 4 on 4 in the huge maps. Atmosphere over all out carnage is what Id is stessing. Looks pretty sick too me. None of the detail is turned down in multiplayer. It will look just as good as the regular game.

#231219Post 20 of 35

The focus with Doom 3 is more on single-player though.

Just days before the game was set to hit US stores, pirated versions of Doom 3 began to appear on peer-to-peer networks and newsgroups. While such occurrences are nothing new--illegal copies of games often appear before their release--the scale of the Doom 3 piracy is far wider than normal.

The BBC is reporting that thousands of copies of Doom 3 were downloaded over the weekend. At one point, the network's technology correspondent Alfred Hermida counted 50,000 peer-to-peer users downloading the 1.5 GB game--$2,749,500 worth of software at Doom 3's $54.99 sticker price. Other reports put the figure between 30,000 and 20,000--$1,649,700 and $1,099,800 of software, respectively.

Whichever figures are accurate, it is clear the piracy of Doom 3 is costing developer id Software and publisher Activision millions of dollars. However, it was unclear what steps the publisher was taking to stop the piracy, given that it had not commented as of press time.

Those who wish to obtain Doom 3 by legitimate means can purchase the game starting tomorrow, or, in some cases, tonight at retailers holding midnight release parties. Gamers who download the game illegally could face a maximum penalty of $100,000 per infringement for copyright violations. However, copies of the game purchased at stores breaking the retail embargo are perfectly legal.

:shock:

I just watched the videos. Is co-op gaming included in the retail version or is this a modification programmed by some hackers?

Re:: Doom 3 leaked!

Anyone know if Counter Strike will be ported up to the new half life 2 engine? I'm a huge CS fan but just haven't kept up with it.

From Gamespot:

Counter-Strike Source will be a remake of the original Counter-Strike using the highly-anticipated Source Engine and will be distributed with Half-Life 2.

Download the trailer. Its sick!!!!!

#233000Post 31 of 35

nothing quite like running doom3 on the lowest possible quality setting.. heck yea baby

#233024Post 32 of 35

Re:: Doom 3

you need a serious gaming machine to run this game...but if you turn it down to 1024x768 and shut off antialiasing and anistropic filtering, you can definitely play it. who cares....they made it so graphics would look great regardless.

#233034Post 33 of 35

I havent had a chance to play the game yet but i am and have been since the first screenshots started appearing a few years ago, very sceptic about it. The graphics are cutting edge, yes, but they dont impress me. Looks very plastic and unreal, i have only seen people look like D3 a few times and thoose are the people that had one too many plastic surgeries..

I have read quite a few reviews of it and all speaks of a very thin plot and basically just go ahead, shoot on everything that moves, repeat. I like games with a story that makes me think up things to be afraid of instead of a bunch of monsters that just spawn behind you all the time.

Dont get me wrong, im sure il be shitfaced scared when i play it the first time but if its so linear it wont take long for me to just run thru it looking for thoose damn PDAs and just wishing that there isnt any more monsters taking up more of my time.

Will be interesting to see what other companys can do with this gfx engine of their tho.

#233875Post 34 of 35

been playing this through on veteran setting with the highest gfx settings. ive been very impressed with the graphics, and the sound is awesome.

been only playing it at night too, with lights off, headphones on and volume up loud and its definately one scary game. ive jumped more in this game than in any game or movie ive seen previously. monsters are nasty, but its definately the sudden sounds and scary whispers that put me on edge.

i think im about half way through it at the moment, and it is very linear. its a great experience though, even though its a little repeditive. maps are layed out nicely, and there are somereally spooky bits scattered through the game.

i dont know if it will have much replay value though (might go through on nightmare difficulty if im bored), and i hear the MP is sorta crappy.

im hoping the modding community can churn out some quality material in the next few months to add value to the game. i do recomend playing it if your computer can handle it, as ID definately did deliver what they promised in terms of a beautfully scary game.

#233878Post 35 of 35

It's a great game but a little too hyped up for my taste. The graphics rock but this game is really not that scary. You'll shit your pants the first hour of play but then you figure out the formula behind the zombie spawns and it all becomes very repetitive. I still feel Far Cry is a better game than Doom 3.
