i have a picture that needs to be edited, but i cant do it because i am awful at things like this...

i need the extra crap around the door to be gone... can anyone help me with this? (not sure how much work it entails... i'm sure somebody could do it in 2 minutes, but ive been messing with it for a few and have had no luck)

i did think that maybe this would be an [me] topic, but posted here since its not so much a computer question as an image problem.

if nobody can help, ill figure it out

Re: anyone useful at working with images?

exactly what around the door.... the metal on the bottom that's attached.. the box the door is attached to? black background, white background... image resized, etc etc?

Re: anyone useful at working with images?

the extra "fuzz" around the door... so that the edges are smooth, like it wasnt cut and pasted onto an orange background, as if there is just a microwave-looking machine sitting there on an orange screen

Re: anyone useful at working with images?

photoshop cs2.... and you have to blow the shit up to around 5 or 600 percent. i don't want to disuade you but it can be hugely time consuming...

Re: anyone useful at working with images?

gotta do what you gotta do though... what do you use in photoshop? just use the eraser and then fill or use a paintbrush?

I didn't do it, obviously, but I am pretty familiar with photoshop. You'd use a selection tool of some sort -- probably a magnetic lasso and touch it up with the normal lasso tool, adding and removing as necessary -- and probably fill it. You do really have to blow it up big, though, and get in there with a fine-toothed comb to make it look clean. It's not particularly hard, but it does take some patience.

yep... i generally lasso the big shit out and then go in and "fine tune" it via brush, clone stamp etc.... as toasty said, not hard but it can be very time consuming....

Re: anyone useful at working with images?

Try this -- use the lasso to do a rough outline of what you want to remove. With that area still selected, go in with the lasso and add and subtact from the selection by holding down the Shift (Add) and Alt (Subtract) keys while drawing with the lasso. Once you get the area you want selected, you can do one of two things:

 1. if the background is completely uniform, capture the color using the eyedropper tool and just fill in the selection under the "edit" menu.
 2. If the background is not uniform, you'll need to use the stamp tool to clone another part of the image and fill it into the selection.

You may need to soften the edge of your selection by feathering it 1 pixel or so, but that's a call you'll have to make after doing it and seeing what the fill looks like.

Two keys:

 1. Zoom in a lot, so you're right on top of it and can really get the lines right, and
 2. Go slow

Hope this is helpful.

Re: anyone useful at working with images?

I use Paint.NET because it's a free open-source image editor comparable to PSP

you should check it out if you have a computer that needs legit stuff. (company computers)
