Re: new macs

I can honestly say I love my Mac, and I don't really care when others bash Macs. It use to bother me, but when I saw my Mac bashing friend build his "ultimate" PC only to have it blow up on him a week later it made up for all of those years of abuse.:)

Re: new macs

My first computer was a Mac (1996) and I had some serious hardware problems. More than one. So I've always been a little sour on them and have been a pc man since then.

Still I can't help wondering, people seem to love them so much. Once in a while I think having a macmini would be fun. Then I come to my senses and realize that's a lot of money just for an operating system, when a pc for the same price would have many more features.

Re: new macs

I had one apple in my life, one of the older i toilets... er mac's and i remember thinking if that computer bitch voice comes on one more time and says "it's not my fault" (you have to own a mac to understand) that i was going to toss that clam shell piece of shit in the river.... i ended up donating it to a homeless shelter.

Computers and apparently studio monitors as well.... I had a producer stop in (who shall remain nameless for his sake) and refuse to work because I didn't have a Mac and a particular set of monitors and then get pissed because I wouldn't go and buy them from either Guitar Center or Sam Ash.... True story.

Re: new macs

I guess it looks like i'll be purchasing one of the new intel macs. It shows they are faster and a little bit cheaper too. Maybe by them finally bringing down their prices, it'll make more sales for apple.

Re: new macs

I don't use macs anymore and haven't for quite some time, but I switched to, and continue to use, PCs begrudgingly. Macs are so much easier to use, and so much more elegant, but I've got to have a PC to run certain apps, and I have no need for multiple computers... :(

Re: new macs

It all depends on what you want to use your computer for. If you want it for media purposes, then go Mac. Otherwise join the masses and get a PC.
It all depends on what you want to use your computer for. If you want it for media purposes, then go Mac. Otherwise join the masses and get a PC.
Now damnit... why'd you have to write that? This isn't about "masses" it's about what works for you, what you feel comfortable with and what fits within your budget. I personally have pc's. I'm a producer and graphic artist and I've owned both a mac and pc. Now this whole "mac for media" and pc for everything else has really, REALLY got to go. This seems to be the only thing mac supporters/owners now throw into the ring when this argument between "what to choose" comes up. The fact of the matter is my Photoshop suite runs better on my pc then it ever did on my mac. When it comes to sound apps I've only ever ran them on a pc because when I started all the software I used was only compatible with a pc. I can run plug in after plug in and never have an issue with either sound or graphic apps. It's all predicated by what you have from a hardware standpoint and what you're running software wise. I don't use my "personal" computer for sound stuff and likewise I don't use my "studio" computer for anything other than sound production. Lets face facts... If it wasn't for the ipod Apple would be close to/if not dead right now. Please don't get me wrong... I'm not knocking Apple or its owners because I used to be one. I'm just saying that the whole argument that one computer operating system is better than another one is nothing more than opinion, pure conjecture and personal preference.

>>Jobs: Apple sales hit $5.7B in Dec. quarter (AAPL) By John Shinal SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch)

Apple Computer Inc. (AAPL) Chief Executive Steve Jobs said Tuesday the company had revenue of $5.7 billion for the quarter ended in December, higher than the $5.04 billion expected by analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call. Speaking to an audience at the company's Macworld conference in San Francisco, Jobs also said the company sold 14 million iPods and 1.25 million Macintosh computers during the quarter, and that the company's retail stores generated $1 billion in sales. Apple shares rose more than 4% in midday trading. Apple is expected to report full results for the quarter on Jan. 18.<<

In response:

"Apple blew away revenue and iPod estimates," Soleil-Cross research analyst Shannon Cross said. "And if you extrapolate the numbers, they will likely beat EPS (earnings per share) estimates as well." The iPod devices have quickly gained the lion's share of the digital music-machine market and helped send Apple stock up 145 percent since the start of 2005. Jupiter Research digital music analyst Michael Gartenberg said the iPod's strong holiday sales provide more evidence that rivals are having a tough time in their bid to unseat Apple as the dominant player in the digital music business. "Apple clearly had a runaway fourth quarter --14 million is an incredible number for them to have sold," he said. "It clearly solidifies their position -- not just as the leading player, but the dominant player." Apple has also bolstered its lead with several versions of the iPod, such as the lower-priced Nano and Shuffle. It introduced a video iPod last October along with a deal with Walt Disney Co. to sell television shows such as "Desperate Housewives." Analysts have credited the popularity of the devices with reversing Apple's fortunes"

Re: new macs

I'll just chime in and mention that I build, Configure, and support Video Editing, Computer Animation, and On Air Design/Graphics machines at MTV Networks and we bitches swear by our Macs hands down without a doubt. iPod may have been (or I should say is) the key to Apple's financial boom, but dont think for a second that that has anything to do with why Mac lovers swear by their machines. And one button or lack of software are very outdated issues that are non-existant save for obvious ultra-customized or specific industry applications which are perfectly legitimate reasons in a case where they are true. For example, Mac OSX is still unable to run spyware and computer virus's and worms. If you use those applications of course you'd need Windows, that's common sense.

Hey, you'll get no arguement from me about which is the safer OS... Windows is a mal-wear ridden OS and the Mac OS platform has no such problems, none, zero, zilch. Mac owners also have the luxury of not having to run virus and spyware dectection software constantly in the backround and having it rob valuable resources. Not to mention the Windows update, constant security patches etc... Crap, now I'm sounding like a level 10 nerd....
