I pose this question to you... I'm looking for a micro system for my living room. Something I can pop a single cd in when I want to read, something that is small, sexy, and sounds good.

Has anyone ever heard a Tivoli before? Any suggestions from someone other than sony, panasonic, jvc???

This is what Im looking at right now, but I havent heard it yet... so i can't be sure.

Re: Micro-Shelf Stereo, CD players... Suggestions..

i was wondering who buys these systems anymore. with DVD players that play both CD's and MP3 CD's and computers with surround sound speakers. it just seems that just about every room other than the bathroom has either a computer or tv in it anymore.

i don't know anything about the one you are mentioning, but i would suggest going with a portible player like an ipod that also has a base component with speakers.

if you are still interested in a book shelf system i would go with reliability over looks. those systems tend to crap out fairly easily.

I've got a Tivoli radio and it's impressive for its size but it won't blow you away with a wall of sound. I think it really depends what your priorities are. I find the 2.1 system on my computer is much better at playing electronic music. The Tivoli works best with acoustic and classical stuff I reckon.

I've heard good things about the Linn Classik systems. All you need is one of these and a set of bookshelf speakers. It does start getting a bit more expensive than Sony at this point.

That's a pretty sexy lookin stereo! If you're just gonna be reading by it, and don't need to blow anyone away, I'd say go for it! Escpecially if it's in a reading room or someplace where you'd have company...stereo becomes functional art. Make it interesting, with innovative design. How much is a system like that?
