Re: Computer Problem.....Need Help!!

not good man.

have you moved the computer around at all? anything that may have loosened cables inside? how about power surges? sounds like the drive died to me...

Re: Computer Problem.....Need Help!!

Make sure you don't have any floppies in the drive.

Re: Computer Problem.....Need Help!!

Usually you can access the bios setup by hitting the Delete key when the computer boots up and it shows the POST screen (where it does the RAM check).

In the bios, look at the setup for hard drives, make sure the primary drive is the one which has Win XP installed. Then look at the boot sequence and check it is correct.

Usually the common problem is if your computer is set up to boot from: 1) cdrom 2) floppy 3) hard disk. Which means if you have a CD left in the cdrom drive, or a disk left in the floppy drive, the bios is looking at them to boot up, which is wrong. So make sure you have no CDs or disks in those drives.

If you've done that and still having the same problem, open up the casing, check the cables connected to your hard drives. If everything looks secure ...

The partition table for the hard drive could be fucked, or your hard drive could be physically fucked.

It'd be best if you can get hold of a bootable Win XP install disc. Boot up with that, and there is an option to Repair.

Otherwise, you can look at www.bootdisk.com for floppy disk options.

Re: Computer Problem.....Need Help!!

im tryin to see if there is a way to burn the boot disks on a cd instead of floppy becuz it wants me to use 6 floppys for each boot disk especially for xp it wants me to get sp1 and sp2 as well as the win xp boot disk. so im tryin to see if it is possible to do it on a cd instead of having 18 floppy disks. but thanks so far for the help all im gonna try some of the things if any other suggestions i would appreciate it.

Re: Computer Problem.....Need Help!!

you can do it with Nero, but you need a boot image for the cd... in other words, you need a bootable floppy to mirror to the CD

Re: Computer Problem.....Need Help!!

Floppys still exist and are used? And I work in computers, so it's been kept a good secret i guess...

Re: Computer Problem.....Need Help!!

I'd do what feather said...... electricity spikes can do strange things in the bios.... check your bootsequence and double check to see that your OS HD is IN the boot sequence.... I've got the exact same error on my comp a few times and checking the HD boot sequence in the bios shows a missing HD.

Re: Computer Problem.....Need Help!!

if you have a legit CD image, you can open the cue file with Nero or Easy CD Creator and burn to cd

Re: Computer Problem.....Need Help!!

one good practice is to have a disk that has your os and another that holds your data... it lessens the pain associated with these types of issues...
