Re: iPod nano is born. 2g/4g flash mp3 player...

i love it when they put that "1000" songs bullshit. 4 gig= 3700 meg /divide that by 1000 and u get each track bing 3.7 meg . that would give u a sound quality less than 96kbps .. i'm deaf as a post but that low quality would still insult my ears.

i'm a creative guy and i think the ipod styling is old and girly :blah:

Dude I totally agree. Until they come out with something that small with 100+ gb, video, color, etc.... I don't want to hear any more announcements.

Re: iPod nano is born. 2g/4g flash mp3 player...

i thought apple's big announcement today was I-tunes cell phone from motorolla, the ROKR. The nano is an announcement as well, but it didn't make the big AP splash that i-shit did.

#470873Post 7 of 40

I think thats pretty damn impressive for its size and weight.

that shit is crazy. i like how they buy it and immediately tear it apart to see what's in it.

looks freakin amazing. i have a mini and now i want one of these.

#471455Post 21 of 40

Looks fucking cool, but surely the major advantage of solidstate over a disk drive should be battery life? 14 hours for the Nano - that is shite. My 2 year old iriver lasts 30 hours. Wasted oppurtunity in my opinion, I'd have ordered one already if it was longer.

The Wall Street Journal reviewed the nano and said battery life exceeded Apple's claims. Wow, that's a first!

It probably gets 16-18 hours depending on settings, etc.

So, it's not that bad. 30 hours is pretty amazing though. But, the nano is pretty well-executed, so I wouldn't bee too bothered by the battery lifespan.

I still wish they would put a damn power button on it though. It's pretty annoying to have to hold down on the click wheel for 5 seconds. And then switch into hold mode. I think that's REALLY LAME.

I like it alot, if I was currently in the market for an MP3 this would be the one. Of course by the time I really am looking for a new MP3, this will be an outdated piece of shit.

#472066Post 25 of 40

get a zen micro instead... i just bought one and i love it.

Well also for about $50 more you can buy a 20 gig Ipod. I don't understand the thinking of todays market. Wouldn't you rather pay $50 more and get a hell of a lot more for your money?

Re: iPod nano is born. 2g/4g flash mp3 player...

More is more, but less is more too....

The tradeoff is capacity vs physical size, we all have different ideas of the ideal balance, and more options makes for better choices.

Plus as they develop these flash players, there will be larger capacity for less money, eventually HD players may become obsolete. Flash certainly have an advantage in battery life due to the few moving parts, and should be more reliable too.

#472510Post 28 of 40

Re: iPod nano is born. 2g/4g flash mp3 player...

Isn't there other players with roughly the same size? Yeah, you get that ITunes and style/fad factor advantage of the IPod, but it isn't worth it.

BTW - the headphone jack I heard isn't standard size, so you will need either an adapter or a new set of headphones, or just to use the Apple supplied ones - DOH! ---- edit - I could be wrong on this, but that's what I heard. Apple's site seems to contradict it though.

#472514Post 29 of 40

^Zen Micro. I just bought one on Friday and I fucking love it. way more features than an iPod too

As the flash players get more and more know, they might become cheaper. But it all boils down to a company's greed. And Apple is one of the most greedy computer companies out there. I understand that their products are really well made and all that. But they really try to gouge their customers on pricing.

While it's certainly true that apple loves to charge $50+ for a power cables and such. Other companies are just as greedy. Sometimes in other, less noticable ways such as using sweatshop labor and charging boatloads for customer support. Apple wisely avoided the cut-throat 3% margin PC market. They also still employ americans in california so their operating expenese are much higher than their tiawanese and chinese competitors.

Apple wants to be an upmarket company like BMW which also sells highly over-priced products that have a cult-like following...

Ripoff.

Like somone else said, for $50 more dollars you can get 16 more Gigs. But then you wouldn't have the coolest/newest player in Starbucks. So it's worth it.

#475757Post 34 of 40

^^^ Yeah but they're not flash players. Solid state costs more than HDD. Tell me where else you can get a 4Gb flash player for that price, or even a 2Gb one.

You pays your money, takes your choice. My only problem is the battery life isn't what it should be solid state.

Agreed, you might want to add "stylish" to that. Good point about them employing Americans, that is becoming rare these days. Whenever I call Dell I can hear sitar music in the background.

palmer, your video icon is hypnotizing...damn that girl can spread her legs.

#476128Post 37 of 40

I just got a 60 gig ipod. It's big, but damn even I am having a hard time filling that baby up! BTW, it's really only 55GB...

but I was in the apple store the other day, and you really have to see these things to appreciate how small and cool they are. Pretty neat, but I like my ipod better. As for my girlfriend, though, she would rather have the nano, since the size is crucial for her, and she doesn't need to have as many songs at her disposal as I do..

NANO SCRATCHES EASY... WTF ever happened to R&D?!?

Lots of threads regarding this topic on the boards out there. I can understand scratches here and there, but the Nano seems to be make of soft plastic that can be scratched with a simple press of the finger nail. Fuck That!
