According to AppleInsider, on Thursday a San Mateo County judge granted final approval of a settlement in the iPod class action suit that affects as many as 1.3 million iPod owners who may have been victim to poor or defective batteries. Under the settlement, owners of either a first- or second-generation model are entitled to $25 cash or $50 credit at the Apple store. Owners of third-generation iPod models are entitled to a free replacement battery if the battery fails. The deadline for submitting a claim is September 30, 2005. Lawyers say the settlement could cost Apple as much as $15m

Re: FAO Ipod owners

That's cool...

the whole battery conspiracy comes to light....

I think it's lame in how it's enclosed and virtually designed to fail over time, thus forcing you to buy another iPod.

Re: FAO Ipod owners

any computer component can fail over time... especially lithium ion batteries

Re: FAO Ipod owners

Anything can fail over time...

The iPod is enclosed, once the battery is done, your out.

^ That is the exact reason why I don't own a i-pod yet. I would rather get something where I can change the batteries.

#467857Post 6 of 19

fuck it. I love my ipod more than anything.

they are sending me an entire new unit and I'm keeping the one I have.

the above statement is not entirely correct. battery failure as defined by apple is a substantial loss of battery life.

Re: FAO Ipod owners

here's a f.a.q. by most ipod owners .. why didn't i get the sony with 30 hrs battery life or that zen touch by creative

iv'e had a zen 40 gig jukebox for 20 months or so and the batteries fading but i just have to buy another not send off to the factory and lose it for 5 weeks

If I had a first or second gen. player I'd certianly fill out the form since it doesen't even require the battery failure, just ownership to get the 25 bucks or 50 dollar gift certificate to their stores.

I only posted this to make people aware (since so many of you have Ipods), not to have another Ipod bashing session (even though I think there are better products on the market).

guess you didn't read my post....

They are sending me a new unit. I don't need to send my ipod anywhere. Which is why I bought an apple product, they, opposed to creative and sony have customer service.

By the way...

apple sent all this shit out to ipod owners probably 5 months ago... so this isn't really late breaking news.

Re: FAO Ipod owners

not "all" ipod owners are so lucky if u read everything in this thread  .. and not all of us are willing to pay 20-40 percent extra for an inferior product just because it's white..also unlike you iv'e neva had to use costomer service with my creative .. who's wearing the smart pants now

#467873Post 11 of 19

You are wearing the pants. You are so fucking smart too, it makes me sick almost.

I don't know what I'm thinking. You've sold me on that zen. I'm selling my ipods and getting one. Thanks.

Re: FAO Ipod owners

I have a 20GB iPod and i'm happy with and all, but imo, it's just an mp3 player with a good interface.

First of all Sony makes some of the shittiest products on the planet. Second of all Apple has first rate logistics. 5 weeks. B4 i lost my iPod i had it fixed once. Sent out the email request that night. The next morning a Fedex truck showed up at my door w/ packaging, they paid for all the shipping, sent me an email later that day and shipped it out the following. 2weeks is great in the electronics industry, but 2-3 business days is incredible.

You sure are a "Bart Smastard".....Jackass

The common person is not going to do this...the general public will toss it in the garbage and buy a brand new one. IMO, Apple has designed this product to be disposable after the battery dies.

I know it's not designed to last forever...but at least if your mobile phone battery dies, you have the option to either to buy a replacement battery or new phone.
