Can anyone give me their opinion on Avast? It's free, so I'm skeptical. I used it to run a search for any virus's because I was getting a ton of Adobe Flash update notifications to the point where it didn't seem legit. So Avast found like 19 "viruses," that I deleted. I think this is the first time I have even scanned my MBP for viruses because everyone has always said not to worry when using a mac. But when I was in DC, man, my computer was attacked by so much crap online, pop-ups, viruses, it was crazy. Anyway. If you have any info - great. Reviews on Amazon seem positive.

Obviously the free version is limited. Paying a yearly subscription is cost effective and required in this modern requirements. Also, I'd suggest webroot. Antispyware, Antivirus, Endpoint Protection Mobile Security | Webroot

the free version seems to be working great. blocks all kinds of unwanted attacks by sketchy websites.
