Im about to buy a new mp3 player, been looking at Irivers H10.

Ive been told that Iriver has better sound than for example iPod but i would feel happier if someone in here would comment this.. so any input about H10?

I'm not all fancy about the IPODs. I don't need a "cute" mp3 player, but they seem to be popular with everyone else.

The Iriver has more options, and i've heard nothing but good stuff about them...but DAMN man, $279 for 5gigs? Rip..OFF!

I've got the Dell 20 gig Jukebox, and love it.

I have iriver cd/mp3 player and yes the sound is great. What I'm lookin at at the moment is their H340 :P if only it didn't cost so much :cry:

Jenks, how does the sound quality on your Dell stack up to an iPod? I don't really see the need to get an iPod for the looks if a Dell costs less and sounds better. (Good ol' AMD mentality :lol:)

I've bought a couple iRiver devices now and have been very happy with them. This kinda reminds me... I need to see if theres a new firmware update for me :D .

I've never used an Ipod and I'm sure their good but you'll get more features with the iRiver, like line in recording, Xtreme 3D (much like Sony's SRS WOW but made by Philips), EQ over 3D, FIRMWARE UPGRADES offering forward compatablilty (OGG,WMA).

I just looked at the H10 since I wasn't that familiar with it but I noticed the line in is only with the cradle. On most of their other devices it just on the player itself. Might want to keep that in mind if you are planning on using it for a lot of recording (as you'll need the cradle with you to record).

i have the 20Gb iriver with the colour screen. No complaints. Line in ripping to mp3 is very cool. Sound quality is awesome.

I have an iRiver H10 and I love it. It is pricey, in fact really pushing the limits of what an mp3 player is worth to me, but I use it all the time, so I'm getting my money's worth.

The design and construction are excellent, as good as ipod IMHO. The interface is nearly as good, but having the play/pause and < > buttons off to the side is a little cumbersome. Otherwise the touchpad scrollbar works superbly. The unit it small, elegant, and well built. The supplied rubber case has worked well for me. One big grip I have is the cable, I would have liked if it used a standard USB cable.

Perhaps the best feature of the design is the removable battery-- not just replaceable, but removable like your cell phone's battery. Carry and extra battery and you're golden. The battery life is quite good though, rated at 12 hours, I can go about a week between charges.

The usefulness of the color screen is questionable to me-- most of the time it's in my pocket or I'm driving so I'm not looking at the screen, as pretty as it is. And the photo function is cool, but with a 1.5 display you can't really see much anyway.

The device is designed to sync with Win Media Player 10 which actually works quite well. There is firmware for international units to make it a UMS device, but this patch has not worked too well on US versions of the H10 (apparently there is some hardware difference btw US and ROW). On the subject of firmware, a lot of people had bug issues with the initial fw, but they did just release new firmware for the US version that works a lot of that out. Mine has always been bug free so I haven't bothered to upgrade.

They will also be releasing more players based on the h10 design, a 1GB and 2 GB flash players, and IIRC 4, 6, and 10gb hard drive versions.

I think the Dell rocks, and looks wicked with the aluminum frame and blue backlit display.

The sound quality is really good imo. I use an fm modulator and take it with me in my truck, and i'm very pleased. I rarely use the ear buds, and i've never listened to an ipod, so i can't really compare, but i can't imagine the sound quality being leaps and bounds better to justify going one way or the other.

AMD mentality, lol...hey, i'm running AMD!

If I'm not mistaken, the Iriver is a good replacement for the Nomad Jukebox 3 from an audiophile standpoint. They are no longer making the JB3 which is a bummer for those who like to record shows (jambands etc.) I think the IRiver can do this. IMHO the Ipod is very very cool but overrated on sound quality and features. Nice choice.

I actually went out and bought me an H10, couldnt wait untill my friend would come back home.. So far i think it seems mighty tasty. I have only tried thoose phones that it was shipped with so far so i cant really say anything about the sound quality yet.

there is much more sound than those supplied ear buds can deliver, mine sounds great in the car (wired from 1/8" headphone jack to aux on the head unit)

The way I see it, the one advantage to buying an ipod is that they have the peripheral market covered, especially OEM car stereo integration kits, which I expect most cars to have in a few years time.

I have an IRiver H140, (older version of the H340), and love the thing. If you compare the IRiver to the IPod of the same size, IRivers are cheaper, have more features, and have longer battery life. (Well, I think Apple has finally caught up on battery life to be almost on par with the IRiver hard disk players.)

The only thing I wish IRiver had was a 60 or 80GB version. My 40GB has been full now for months.

That is why that company will not last for a whole long time. I didn't like their forst cd/mp3 player, the amp on it sucked bad.

They have those small mp3 recorders that have 512 megs, those are actually really good. You can set the thing to record at the bitrate you want and then it'll go all night...if that's what you want. A buddie of mine records all his sets that way...at 160KBPS. I'd say that's pretty good for four hours of a set.

My H120 (20GB) broke a few weeks back. It was only seven months old. I just got in contact with their customer service today after multiple tries and will be getting a brand new one.

Up until it broke (the hard drive came loose inside) I was very happy with it. Interface wasn't wonderful, but the sound and feature set were great.

I never came close to filling it. I would usually put about six hours of music on, then delete things. There was about always about 3 GB of tunes on it, so I could see myself surviving with a 5 GB player.

The nicest thing about iriver is it totally ignores DRM. If you put it on, it can play it. You can also back up non-music files and use it as a removable drive.

I have a Dell DJ20 and love it... The ipod & iriver may have more features, but I really don't need them. If you want a good basic player for less money, you could do a lot worse...

the shures are good but you can get a significant upgrade just from the sony fontopias. the 71's. the go in the ear and amazon has them for $30. i'd highly recommend them.

am SO pissed, just this December I got the 40 gb IPOD for $399 and today the fucking 60GB color IPOD if $429 :roll:

fucking hate technology price drops..... same is the case with my Canon G5 memory card.... Just last July I bought a 1 GB card from Tiger Direct for $179. Today you can get one for $79.... DOUBLE :roll: :roll:

hate this shit

but all in all, I still LOVE all my purchases....

You asked in the other topic about the zen extra .. iv'e had a creative zen extra for 21 months battery is just begining to fade . but other than that iv'e not had single problem with it ( other than it blowing headphones on massive attacks - protection ) the software u get with it is good and there are very few media types it won't play . it is way too big by todays standards but till i have a problem with it i can't fault it . the only trouble u'll have is ppl will always suggest what they got which only leave u more confused picklemonkey . alot of ppl keep saying u don't need 20+ gig or even 5gig + but mines 40 and i hate having to decide what to remove from it to put on the new music i aquire . it all depends what u won't it for. if it's just to go jogging with or the gym ect.ect. then large capacity is prob not a priority .but if ure gonna sell ure system just keeping ure amp ( not wise to keep it all bcos if u used mp3 player last then switch to cd/phono and didn't remember to turn down output u'll blow ure speakers or frighten the neighbours . mp3 players kick out a fith of the juice as a seperate so u have to turn the volume way up.or put it through a pre amp ) what id'e look for personaly is capacity/batterylife/size then price in that order . output quality tends to be similar across the board and ease of use dosn't matter after uv'e had something for a few weeks because u get used to it .srry i couldn't simplify ure chioce but these things are all about the individual and what his needs are

well i'ma have to pass on the H10. Requires XP, proprietary USB cable, and managing files via explorer isn't well supported. looks like the 5GB Zen Micro is the way to go.
