[quote]All those days and nights you spend chatting with your friends on Windows Live Messeger will soon be just a memory.

Microsoft has announced it is bidding adieu to Messenger after more than 12 years. The company will retire Messenger apps "in the coming months" for all regions worldwide, except for mainland China, Brian Hall, general manager of Microsoft's Windows Live unit, wrote in a blog post Tuesday.

Microsoft encouraged users to switch over to Skype, which offers video and voice calling in addition to instant messenger. The company recently released Skype 6.0 for Mac and Windows, which allows you to sign in to Skype using a Microsoft account. Doing so will transport all your Messenger contacts to Skype automatically. Re: Windows Messenger retiring after 12 years

I heard they are merging the back ends of the two platforms so your MSN accounts should get exported to Skype. I use neither one any more so BAM MicroSoft.

I have surrendered my privacy to Google instead.

Time to move to Mainland China then! Always found the video quality in WLM much better than Skype tbh.

Re: Windows Messenger retiring after 12 years

I've noticed more people using Facebook chat or Gtalk than MSN these days but it'll be sad to see MSN go like ICQ.

^^^ Ditto, still remember when I first used ICQ, it was sooooo cool, you could customize the colors and sounds.
