My girlfriend's 10-year-old son got a virus on his computer, and gets another lecture on safe internetting. After two hours of work, I restored the computer to the earliest state possible, and it told me Windows isn't activated. I entered the Windows serial number, and it said the number is invalid. Ten seconds later, the computer popped and I smelled burning electronics. He proceeds to cry as he realizes the result of his actions... all I can think is to just be quiet and let him keep thinking it's his fault. Seriously... wtf just happened?

Re: ...wtf
Dude you sure it was the laptop burning and nothing else? Get Avast Anti-Virus, it's been incredibly good at work and for $19, you can get a 2 user license for 2 years.
Re: ...wtf
Yeah, it was definitely the computer. As soon as I heard the pop, it shut itself off and won't turn on. When I opened the PC, the smell was strong. I restored the computer to a point where he wanted a computer again
