I was this close to ordering one yesterday but I keep reading stuff that holds me back. First it was the LTE, then no simultaneous voice and data on Verizon; when I got past that, I read Apple's new Maps app isn't as developed as Google's and I need that badly to get around NY.

I wonder if Google Maps will return to the App store as 3rd party app.
I don't understand why Apple decided to develop its own Maps, makes no sense at all. Cartography is so not Apple's thing and I doubt if Apple has the resources to create a strong enough app for that purpose.

Yeah their map data is for sure lacking right now which sucks b/c i love google maps. I've heard they've redone it from the ground up so the map rendering is much smoother etc and are probably pouring tons of resources into fixing all of the missing data etc which they are lacking right now.

You can always add Google Maps' webapp to your Home Screen via Safari. Or there is always the MapQuest app to, not sure how well that works overseas though.

I highly doubt it. If you are qualified and your resume looks good I am sure you don't need a reference. They like Amazon where I worked are growing so quickly and have so much cash that they don't have enough good people, so if you are qualified it shouldn't matter. Always having an internal referral probably helps get someones attention much easier though.

It's weird. Apple store is selling them for full price without contracts even though that hasn't been announced. The only provision is that they can only guarantee the phones will work with the 3 US carriers.

Yeah ... I spoke to the Apple guy and it's probably more a legal issue than anything else because Apple isn't officially selling factory unlocked phones yet, they can only guarantee the phones you buy upfront from a US Apple store will work within the US.

It be better to get a phone on contract, then get it unlocked thru the service provider, way cheaper than buying an unlocked phone through Apple.

I miss France where telecoms are required by law to unlock all phones for free after 6 months on contract.

Most US carriers will unlock it within 6 months as well if you call and ask them to do so. I've gotten both TMO and ATT to unlock my S2 and Blackberry.

^How come instructions to do this aren't easily available to find online? Shouldn't there just be a special key sequence for every model of phone that people can just put online? Paying for someone to push a few buttons is shit.
