Samsung Galaxy Note
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
Nice one K, I thought the screen sounded too big but used one at an exhibition and it is brilliant i must say, gotta talk myself into not getting one though and wait until my contracts up. Is it running ICS?
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
No its not, there are some leaked Chinese ICS Roms out there but they have their share of problems, phone doesn't work, wifi glitches, etc. But apparently the ICS Kernel is kick-ass (though the source for it hasn't been officially released by Samsung).
I installed the latest stock ROM, rooted, with CWM installed and JKay add-on. I've flashed Franco Kernel with it but I might go back to another Stock ROM that was stripped of ALL the apps/add ons that come with the device.
I will admit, I miss using the GS2 as a phone as it's kinda awkward holding this 5.3" behemoth to your face. And the headphones that come with the device are utter shit.
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
I find myself being greedy and always wanting a bigger screen whilst im browsing/reading something but never considered actually using it as a phone. Jkay mod has to be one of the best mods ever to grace a phone i think, i dont even flash new firmwares until he has said which firmware he will be supporting, amazing work.
Re: Samsung Galaxy Note
I couldn't agree with you more. I absolutely love jkay. The main issue I have with the phone (well it's not really the phone's fault) is that because of the size, there aren't any 5x2 sized widgets anymore. So weather apps (other than the stock accuweather one which I despise) don't stretch across the screen. Neither do any news feeds or winamp, all of which were designed for 4 inch screens. Hopefully it gets resolved in the coming weeks.
And yes, the screen real estate is WICKED. For me, it's actually easier to type using the onscreen keyboard using portrait-mode rather than landscape.
This is the Rom I installed - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365587
The guy is really helpful. I just flashed some of the apps / widgets that he removed - he has provided a link in the thread where we can download the zip file, open the zip, delete all the ones we don't want, and flash the zip file with the remaining widgets. The battery life with bare minimal widgets and the franco kernel is remarkable. I'm running now for 22 hours and still have 40% left. Of course my usage has been minimal. Just surfing the web, news apps, listening to music to and from work (a 5 - 8 min drive).
The battery app shows a flatline when the phone is deep sleep. REMARKABLE to say the least.
