Anyone else use this?

I keep moving around services which I want to keep my bookmarks in.

Used delicious for a while, then switched to Diigo. Diigo is ok, but searching stuff really quickly isn't that good imo so I've been bookmarking stuff and just never coming back to it.

Installed the Evernote Mac app and the Firefox plugin, it seems pretty kick ass so far. You clip whole webpages as your bookmark, and it also will OCR images so you can search through images and PDF's even (for $). It only allows it looks like 60MB/month of uploads to the service for free which is enough. But this seems like it might be what I use from here on out if I can find a good way to organize my old bookmarks in a good fashion with this.

Re: Evernote

I use it for the same purpose, bookmarking/storing stuff I see on the web, and keeping notes. Probably don't use it as much or maximising its features as I should.

I also use their iPhone app, I do wish the iPhone app would cache local copies on the iPhone.

Re: Evernote

Is there an easy way to bookmark stuff? It seems like the scraper doesnt work on some sites with frames and i have to cut/paste the page, cut paste the url and change the title. Thats kind of a pain in the ass.

Re: Evernote

I do the same with some sites too, mostly to get rid of crap like 'suggested/relevant links' and 'comments'. I generally clip the page, then in Evernote, delete the aforementioned junk, add tags, and maybe edit the note's title before saving.

Re: Evernote

^yeah i have been doing that too. I have like 400 links from Diigo I'd like to import and it doesnt save my tags so i want to try and do some generic bookmarks quickly :/

Re: Evernote

Creating just plain olde bookmarks on the mac seems to be a pain in the ass for this. anyone know of a quick and easy way? i dont want to clip the whole webpage etc and shit like that, just let me store the title and put it in a folder, or tag it.

Re: Evernote

Bookmarks? Don't you make bookmarks in your web browser?

Re: Evernote

well the main point of me using this is to keep all of my bookmarks in sync and also keep notes etc in one place. i mainly want to use this to do dumps of data for work for hard to remember shit so i can search by keyword over everything when i need it. plus keep a million work and personal bookmarks available everywhere.

if i can do that with this program and not use anything else and have to dick around with another addon that works for firefox, windows, linux, mac, android then it would be nice. im sick of having shit saved at work then needing it at home. or having a bunch of work links i need to get to somewhere else when im busy talking to 20 ppl debugging a problem. this being on all platforms everywhere is what i could use.

Re: Evernote

Understood ... it seems like Evernote is a good option for that, but Evernote is a note-taking app hence clipping an entire webpage, while a bookmark is essentially a link; which Evernote is sorta overkill for.

I think your only option is to manually copy/paste or drag the links you want, into a note in Evernote.

Re: Evernote

Hey Res, are you using Chrome or FF?

I'm using the Evernote extension in Chrome, and I just noticed it lets you clip URL. It gets stored in Evernote as a note containing said URL.

The plugin also lets you add tags before clipping.

That should solve your problem? You'll quickly end up with a lot of notes though.

I never paid attention to the Chrome extension cos I usually take a full screenshot and work on the clipping in the Evernote app.

Re: Evernote

Humm. yeah I guess that will work....I have to use the web based clipper instead of the FF addon. Yeah I think this kind of sucks for bookmarks. :( I want to keep all of this crap in one place and not use Diigo anymore if I can consolidate everything. Oh well.

Re: Evernote

So the FF addon doesn't let you clip URL?

#1535763Post 15 of 20

Re: Evernote

It will when I have the plugin just dump the clip using the crappy web version. It doesn't seem to be very easy on osx using the real clipper that dumps it to the app. I'll prob just use ff i guess to organize all my work shit and try to keep it all sorted there :D

Evernote seems pretty kick ass for scraping web pages and notes for programming shit and code snippets I need to think of every once in a while when I'm working on a problem at work and cant remember the exact syntax of stuff.

Re: Evernote

I use the extensions for FF and Chrome, haven't had much issue clipping to the Evernote app to be honest.

Re: Evernote

I used it for a few mins on my windows box and it seemed to work a bit different there. I can't remember exactly I need to do it again, but I think it works like you describe on windows moreso than mac which could be it.

Re: Evernote

Evernote just released an extension for Chrome called Evernote Clearly. Even though it does what Instapaper does, it offers 'themes' that're either more pleasant or comfortable on the eyes, and lets you save to Evernote of course.
