funny, i just posted about this on my blog:

the latest iPod shuffle is such a joke! $99 for what is basically a 512MB flash drive with a chip and a decoder. And you dont even get control over the playlist! I could write a fucking perl script that does what this thing does! I bet it costs Apple nothing more than $40 to make these things and they are selling them at an obscene profit. I'll stick with my iPod and iPod mini (yes, I have both) thank you.

stick with a normal ipod man. this is a piece of shit.

Best thing in the world. I have the one gig vers and I fucking love it. Small, light, compact, no LCD to scratch or skuff, and I put on sets, so I KNOW WHAT THE FUCK I AM LISTENING TO.

What I do like about it tho - is that since its a USB flash drive, I can store other stuff like pictures etc and take it with me everywere without worrying about breaking it...

but that having been said, i can do the same with a $65 flash drive.

Yes you are correct. But it's fucking Apple and they really did a beautiful job on this POS. It lasted my (me) 16 hours on one charge. It's fucking amazing. Plus when I am in the studio I put this bad boy on. It sticks with me and by me in all my hustle//bustle. I can toss some data on this and it is always in my pocket as a pack of gum.

Love the bastard. I do not need 40 gigs of indulgence. 1 gig is fine. :RockOn:

I use my trusty pioneer HDJ 1000s on a long commute and sony in-ear phones on the tube etc where i cant lug around my heavy DJ phones.

I've never had a problem with my white earbuds. Granted if I had $200 to plop down on a pair of those new-fangled doohickeys I would, but the ones I have definitely serve their purpose.

Well of course you know what sets you're listening to... you can only fit like 8 of 'em (more or less depending on bit-rate and if they're longer than an hour... you'd only fit like 4 192kbps Essential Mixes on even the expensive 1 Gig model...) And if you feel like listening to a particular set, you'll have to skip around at random 'till you hear the beginning which I hope you remember by heart. I don't know... I just think you have to be on-the-go quite a bit to warrant purchasing any mp3 player, let alone one that won't tell you what you're listening to, or keep any kind of order to a playlist you loaded on it.

the earbuds that came with mine were blown right out of the box. swear to god. the first time i played something on them, one of 'em was/is making this nasty farting/blown speaker kinda sound. fuck those things, i picked up a decent pair of aiwa noise-cancelling headphones that are pretty small and fold into an even smaller bundle, sound good, and cancel a good deal of noise.

1st: go check the standard price on other 1 gig flash players that you have to feed with batteries. 2nd: it doesn't matter how fucking new something is. it matters how useful it is! 3rd: 16 hours is a damn long time, 4 x more than my ipod 4th: 1 gig is plenty of music for a single day, even a week 5th: i can drop a few mixes in the morning and then i'm good to go for the train, walking to work. 6th: who needs a fucking screen when you're listening to a dj mix? 7th: no screen=no worries; my ipod screen got scratched to hell 8th: it's cheap and light to carry anywhere 9th: do i really want to carry a valuable 40 gig harddrive with me everywhere i go? 10th: it rules, it owns, and you know it :RockOn:
