Re: Forthcoming Releases
Soma 2006 Compilation
Label: Soma Quality Recordings Catalog#: SOMADA056 Format: 2xCD Country: UK Release date: 01 Dec 2006 Genre: Electronic Style: Electronica, Techno, Electro
Tracklist:
Disk 1 (unmixed)
Disc 2 (Slam mix)
2006 has been an incredible year for Soma, with the label celebrating both its 200th single release and fifteenth birthday. This edition of their annual compilation is bursting with the year's choicest cuts and also includes a bonus Slam mix Soma cd.
This album will be released as a double CD. CD1 contains a selection of 2006's best, while Soma label bosses Slam concoct a seamless label showcase CD mix on CD2, which features new tracks and classics from throughout the years.
CD1 kicks off with an exclusive dub mix of Lusine's emotive interpretation of Alex Smoke's "Make My Day". The Ghostly International artist has crafted a wonderfully thick and spacious slab of techno soul. Following on is the debut Soma release from electronic pioneers The Black Dog. The "Riphead EP" was released in the spring to wide critical acclaim, title track "Riphead v2" is techno from another dimension, both melodic and penetrating, this deep and hypnotic journey is scrambled with electronic circuitry and luscious strings.
Another previously unreleased version comes from Vmax's Heath Brunner aka Silicon, his 10 Tech Mix of "C-Side" by Octogen is a twinkling Detroit workout that maintains the full effect of Marco Bernardi's skewed, electronic vocal. The debut Octogen album "2fiveonine" will be released in January 2007.
Alex Smoke released his devastating "Paradolia" album in March and has also mixed the latest chapter of the Sci-Fi-Hi-Fi mix compilation series which is out imminently. His next inclusion comes from Perlon artist Matt John's demented-funk remix of "Meany".
Repeat Repeat are about to release their debut album "Squints" and their contribution to the compilation is their first Soma release "Bounce Your Body To The Box". This spangled cut was released late on in 2005 and is riddled with mutating beats and bouncing robo-lyrics.
Slam are currently working on their forthcoming album and here are represented by their sublime remix of Alex Smoke's masterpiece, "Never Want To See You Again". Silicone Soul follow with their epic summer hit, "The Snake Charmer". Taken from their recent "Save Our Souls" album, this is a glistening chunk of astro-house funk that marvelously incorporates the enchanting sound of the flute to maximum effect.
2006 was also the year that Soma released music from New York man-machine My Robot Friend. Howard Robot's "Dial 0" album made a splash upon its release in May; included on the compilation are remixes from two of the singles. First is Derrick Carters' first remix in two years, his "We An Army Dub" of "Swallow" is a bassline-bumpin, funk-riddled cut that incorporates "Crasta Yo" spikey lyrics and infectious groove. Also included is the Modeselektor big-bass techno rework of "Dial Zero". The B-Pitch boys have scrambled the original into a turbo dancefloor bomb.
The compilation concludes with almighty booming "Audiomer" from The Separatists. Percy X's Separatists project also released their debut album "Akilak" in the summer.
Re: Forthcoming Releases
Get Physical turn to English house DJ Jesse Rose for the third edition in their popular Body Language series. 'Body Language Vol. 3' will be released mid-February.
Jesse Rose is one of those bubbling under names whose move to Get Physical just might break him internationally. But if you look closely at the record bins, you'll find his name everywhere: recently he's released on Dubsided, Will Saul's Simple label (as Content) and Mobilee as well as Derrick Carter's Classic label (as Induceve). Rose also runs three ? count 'em ? record labels, The Front Room, Loungin' and his latest addition Made to Play, releasing the likes of Solid Groove, Trevor Loveys and Stefan Goldmann. ?Jesse can do no wrong in my eyes," says Output head Trevor Jackson. "He's always diverse and never scared to do his own thing."
Given Rose's background in house music, perhaps the hook up with Get Physical isn't such a surprise. He was first asked by the label to remix 'Vejer' by Riton vs Heidi, and he now lives in Berlin, Get Physical's base, where he has a monthly residency at the Panorama Bar. Why the move to Germany? "I needed a change from London. I had been living there for ten years and it's a hardcore place at the best of times," says Rose. ?There's only so many clubs and after parties you can do. Because I had played in Berlin quite a lot over the past six or seven years, I had already made good friends here."
Although Rose had already hooked up with Get Physical, he was still surprised when they asked him to mix the third 'Body Language' CD. "Get Physical is always looking for fresh ideas, but I was honoured that they asked me. They let me do what I wanted, so the mix isn't their typical sound," Rose says.
Rose joins the ranks of stablemates M.A.N.D.Y. and DJ T. with his 'Body Language' mix, on which he includes a number of his own Dubsided, Classic and Made to Play productions, as well as more than a few chopped up hip-hop samples. ?Using hip-hop is part of a general attitude," Rose explains. ?If you listen to house music when you're making house music, that's when things go wrong. I did the mix using two turntables and a CD deck. It took me three weeks to do properly. Don't ask me why I didn't just do it on a computer - maybe I feel DJing should be involved, a performance, rather than just looking like someone checking their emails on a laptop."
Aside from his own tracks, 'Body Language 3' includes some bigger like-minded tunes such as Radio Slave's remix of 'Deer in the Headlights', Bobby Peru's 'Erotic Discourse' and Aril Brikha's perennial stomper 'Groove La Chord' from 2002. ?I decided to end the mix with 'Groove La Chord' because I started off playing Detroit and Chicago music, so what better way to end my first mix?" says Rose.

PANTHA DU PRINCE ? THIS BLISS ? DIAL CD 09 ? CD ? RELEASEDATE: 29.01.2007

?Trallafitti?
(mixed by Tobias Becker)
Tobias Becker, born in 1978 in Duisburg/Germany, has come to Electronic Music in a more or less roundabout way. His education in classical music starts at an early age. He plays the bariton in a Big Band in Neuss, gets a grant from the local town council and is awarded the prize of the ?Jugend musiziert? competition. First contact with electronic music is made through the radio, later through nightclub visits and for Tobias, life without this kind of music is unthinkable now.
In winter 2000, the ARTheater club comes across his name thanks to a mix tape he sent in and he becomes resident DJ at the ARTheater, Cologne. The parties become more and more exciting as he has now the opportunity to rock the club together with people like Ricardo Villalobos, Steve Bug and Andr? Galluzzi.
For him a good education, because the beginning of a clubnight is important for the whole night. In spring 2001, Tobias Becker works as a trainee at Neuton distribution. In April 2003, he has his fi rst gigs at the Harpune club in Duesseldorf and later becomes one of Harpune?s official resident DJs.
Finally, at the end of 2003, Tobias Becker founds his own label: Platzhirsch Schallplatten.
Since March 2004, his records are distributed worldwide through KOMPAKT. Then, after only 7 months, Platzhirsch ranks among the Top Ten in the Groove magazine?s reader?s poll ?Best German Label? 2004. More gigs follow and he now has the chance of DJing together with acts like Sven V?th, Laurent Garnier, Miss Kittin, Michael Mayer, etc. There are labelnights for example at the Panoramabar/Berghain, at Loft(Barcelona) or at Studio 88 (Aix
en Provence) etc.! In mid 2005, Tobias Becker founds Kahlwild, a sub-label of Platzhirsch. Trallafitti is his fi rst offi cial mix cd and reflects a timeless clubnight in almost 80 minutes. The CD is 100 % from the beginning to the end mixed with vinyl and it hasn?t been reworked digitally. The 2nd cd includes some of the best releases on Platzhirsch.
Good Hunting!!!

KARAT/KATAPULT LABEL COMPILATION ? VARIOUS ARTISTS ? CD ? RELEASEDATE: 05.02.2007
Here comes the new Karat/Katapult compilation, third volume, with 100% exclusive tracks made for this project. The artists from the label have been invited, as some foreign friends. If the record?s tonality is ?dance?, it doesn?t only have a functional interest, all the tracks call the sensibility, the emotions, the soul of the listener. It?s close to the definition of ?deep? in electronic music, and we guess it does fit with the general mood of this record, even with the stompin? tracks. It?s a sure quality and taste record that will easily last. The record starts with The Mole, brilliant canadian musician that all music lovers already know for his releases on Mutek, Risqu?e and Philpot. Here he?s delivering a beautiful deep and sexy house track. Then Dolibox, this year?s Karat?s revelation, follows with a gorgeous modern blues piece. The Cerveaux Lents (pun impossible to translate) is the hot collaboration between Ark & Mikael Weill. They bring us into the geto funk hollow, the crackheads? district. Skat, the melancholic of the crew invites us during his city?s nightwalk. Antislash, the young gang (circus co) who wants to push old buddies aside in a great classic style! Ark, the most punkadelic off all, a contrario in a really smooth atmosphere. Noze, the rising band in a 100% electronic style that we love. Sonja Moonear, Dandy Jack?s allie in Junction sm tells us the story of a bloody ship. Automat, our electro ?? la fran?aise? specialist, heard on Scsi, Diplom and Karat probes your mind! Mikael Weill , brilliant in his live-sets, caresses our heart with the splendid ?Emie?. Electrom?nager come to wet us with their spaced out electro. Vita, Mikael Stavostrand?s alias, delights us with his music and the nice Erika?s voice. For the end, our minibar?s world champion Cabanne gives us a invitation to dance as a conclusion.

Hey all, just a quick shout to let you all know EK's new album is out now! And is awesome.
EK - 1000 Thoughts Per Second
New album available now from www.beatport.com/ek
Released on SOUND NOT SCENE VIA EQ / STOMP
Tracklisting ? 1000 Thoughts Per Second ? Bounce (EK and Fine Cut Bodies feat MC Spee - EK Edit) ? Now Your Fine ? Desire ? Smokesceen ? Keep it casual ? Don't need U ? Bring it on (EK feat MC Raid) ? The Origin ? Cold Dreaming ? What has become ? Save me(EK feat Daniele Noel)
??Like all good releases, the album also has a definite progression towards its end point, which becomes slightly techier than the beginning of the release. Then with the final track, ?Save Me?, which features the Cirque Du Soleil-esque vocal work of Danielle Noel and leaves the listener wanting more. Another blinder for the summer season. ? Inthemix.com.au album Review
??While many of the leading lights in breaks flounder as to which direction to go, EK knows exactly where hes at and what hes doing. It shows. This is a shit hot album. ? Onion.com.au album Review
??EK?s ?1000 Thoughts per Second? is a great record. The Australian DJ and Producer has crafted yet another gem replete with ass-moving beats and phenomenal bass-lines,?? , ??I'm hesitant to highlight that this is a local release, as it's on a par with any high-calibre breaks record worldwide?? , ??Just in time for summer, '1000 Thoughts Per Second' is a cracker, full of surprises, and yet so familiar, and almost guaranteed to hit the spot. ? M.I.A. - Bitters?ss
he long playing techno album remains a difficult trick to pull off, but with ?Bitters?ss? M.I.A. has given us one of 2007's early contenders. Not to be confused with the London grime darling, Michaela Grobelny?s M.I.A. is known for producing a particularly emotional brand of minimal techno, with releases on Traum, Trapez and Treibstoff and remixes for the likes of Basteroid, The Modernist and Steve Barnes' Process. She and Falko Broksieper founded the Sub Static label in 2000 before relocating from Cologne to Berlin in 2004, and it is the fusion of these cities' sounds - Berlin edginess with Cologne pulling-of-heartstrings - that makes ?Bitters?ss? such a bittersweet success.
The cover finds her thigh-deep in water, naked but for some cables draped elegantly around her torso. Sprouting from these are a number of water lilies, which perhaps allude to the organic warmth that flow through her elegant programming. I'd like to have argued against this sort of image adorning work by female producers - she's surely catering to every male technoist's fantasy (mine included) - were it not so illustrative of the music within: with her voice floating - both deadpan and desperate - through most tracks, she's revealing more of herself than most minimal artists; references to water abound, and her choice of synth sounds is as bright and fresh as the flowers blooming around her. Oh, and her programming is as svelte as her designer bobbed hairdo.
After 'Self Control' - a brief intro of brushed gongs and whispers around lightly thumped drums - 'Can't Find You' hits the floor with some hesitation, gasps and dulcimer strumming battling shakers before more strident tone rows of Lawrence bleeps march in. 'Safe Night' is more urgent, its lurching rhythm holding drunken synth patterns in check before a straighter melody pushes them aside. 'Can you tell me why?' M.I.A. asks in 'Cold City', which splits into reverbed multiples with hints of the moans of deep house divas. It's dance music for drunken romantics, too miserable to cut loose yet desperate for distraction, like Superpitcher shaded in pastels.
Bird calls, whispers, deep pads and 'Brutalga Square' rattles all pile into 'Swoon', which somehow manages to remain uncluttered, coming off like a Fairmont track. Elsewhere M.I.A. takes in pseudo no-wave electro ('Under the Bridge'), skittish My My house ('Wild Ponys') and ambling electro-pop ('Bitters?ss'), all delivered with a nocturnal moodiness that is never less than entrancing. The final, hidden track looks back to Weimar-era cabaret, with plucked upright bass and vocals so echo-drenched they resemble a female Alan Vega performing in a Twin Peaks nightclub. Bitters?ss is filled with such surprises, with Grobelny masterful at combining microhouse buoyancy with more sensual - and sinister - moods and structures.
M.I.A. - Bitters?ss tracklisting:
1 Self Control 2 Can't Find You 3 Cold City 4 Safe Night 5 Swoon 6 Under The Bridge 7 Wild Ponys 8 Chateau Mandourelle 9 Bitters?ss 10 So I Felt 11 Datalover 12 Cologne Memories 13 Fragile
