So I'm listening to the new Junkie XL remix of Coldplay's "Talk" today.... Now I live in a very, VERY chr (contemporary hits radio/top 40) market and this song will be huge (because it's Coldplay of course and it's on the radio)... Honestly I really enjoy the track (A great remix...almost has a Leama and Moor feel to it) but it's one of those things where I wonder "would I play it if I didn't live in a town that's so radio driven?" In this case I would but here in Cincinnati I can't get away with playing a straight away progressive set of all "unknown" tunes on a regular club night because the crowd would revolt no matter how good (IMO) the music was.... Plus, factor in after doing this for so long I've got the rep of a DJ who will play "mainstream" music (as long as I think it's good and fits in the format).... I don't know... Anyone else deal with this dilemma as a DJ and what do you honestly, HONESTLY think of the remix? If you're going to pull the "holier than thou, I would never play this tune" attitude please don't respond to this....

I've thought about that before too. I often wonder if you play a mainstream track if your credibility will go to shite i.e. how people criticize Sander for playing the "Mr. Roboto" track, but it's all cool with me. Play what you like. You can't win over everyone.

i dont give shit what people say about Mr Roboto when Lawler dropped it in his ultra set it was sick & i loved every second of it. Maybe its cheese to some but that track Rocked. In the end you may want to play only what you want and that is fine on some level but after all you are there to make the crowd dance and if thats what they want hay there is no helping poor taste in music

Considering this and the JXL single 'Today' havent been fully promo'd to date, the rate at which both tracks are finding their way around on CDR is somewhat worrying..am sure the radio listeners in Buttfuck Arkansas would love it though.

It's a very good remix, a bit too lengthy for my tastes though (around 10 minutes). I would say play it if it makes you move. I don't think this would blend well into my sets, so I would personally keep it out. If you're looking for something less cheesy then check out the Max Graham Remix.

this isn't a bad remix either...now everyone is remixing this track :lol: Got the Spencer Collective ones initially which were very good.

I would say it really depends on your market/where you're playing...if you have to drop familiar stuff to keep people on the floor and in the club, so be it...I hate that fact sometimes, but it continues to hold true. Also, that's what bootlegs and white labels can be good for...but what I've learned in settings like that is to keep things upbeat, groovy, and try to play a fair amount of vocal tracks as well. By roping them in, then slip in a track or 2 that's "unfamiliar" to them but would fit in the set well...but don't go overboard (then continue to hammer said tracks out if they haven't cleared the floor totally the first time and eventually you'll tune people into them).

i don't know but i didn't like this track much.... there's sth i don't like in it... tough the melody is incredible... i don't find the remix as i would like.
