Dobbs 'The Alchemist' (Redgrave Records)
Released : 21st Feb / Distribution : SRD
Info :
Dj / Producer Dobbs returns with the follow up single to the widely acclaimed ?Skydeck?. ?The Alchemist? is based around some samples taken from remarkable UK + US film footage of LSD drugs testing on soldiers in the 1940?s and 1960?s. The UK film shows a platoon of soldiers sent off to do an exercise in a forest after being given huge doses of LSD, and the hilarious / terrifying results..
Dobbs first single ?Skydeck? was played by a host of DJs from Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC Radio 1 to Adam Freeland to John Digweed, and this is no exception, with some of the reactions listed below. Deep breakbeat would be one way to describe this track which works over a big system but has the musicality and chilled edge to be enjoyed at home.
Christian J provides the tougher mix on the B side, and he really beefs things up to maximum effect providing a storming club breaks cut, whilst keeping the atmospheric vibe of the original. A great package here then with two quality mixes for different vibes.

? DJ / Producer Dobbs follows up the well received ?Skydeck? single with this deep breaks excursion featuring the voices of soldiers who were being road tested with LSD in the 1940?s. The original is quite chilled and musical, with Christian J?s beefed up dancefloor version on the flip managing to keep most of the atmospherics. Nice package all round.? Rennie Pilgrem
M8 Magazine
"Second single from one of the most exciting names to emerge recently in the deep prog/breaks scene. A themed record based around vocal samples of LSD testing carried out on soldiers around the Second World War(!) It may sound a bit far-fetched but the Original Mix is an atmospheric and melodic deep breaks journey that most will find entertaining. Christian J provides the remix and totally hits the spot with an altogether tougher stance that all prog and breaks DJ's should take a large dose of and enjoy!" - M8/M8 (Standby)

No 3 in the shop sales chart the intro and start is brilliant and the track gets better as it goes on. Christian j remix- the fucking nuts as well very me, should do really well.
Undercover Magazine
Man of the moment, "Christian J", takes "Dobbs" quality original and turns in a most wonderful uplifting tune which I'm sure all the big prog jocks will be canning, 'i know we certainly will be'! Spacey tripped-out effects, cool crisp drums, and dreamy long drawn out breakdowns make for a quality hands in the air moment for yet another well crafted rmx by Christian J . 5/5
